SABC’s MG5 (METRO FM, GOOD HOPE FM AND 5FM, ) JOIN FORCES FOR A SPECIAL BROADCAST TO MARK 50 DAYS COUNTDOWN TO OLIVER REGINALD TAMBO CENTENARY

Johannesburg, Wednesday, 06 September 2017 - In celebration of one of South Africa’s greatest freedom fighters, Oliver Reginald Tambo, the SABC’s Commercial Radio Brands (5FM, Metro FM and Good Hope FM) are joining forces to mark the 50 day countdown of his centenary, on the 8th of September 2017. The stalwart would have celebrated his 100th birthday this coming October. All three stations will broadcast live, simultaneously, from the SABC’s Ground floor auditorium at Radio Park in Johannesburg on the 8th of September 2017 between 09:00 – 10:00.  The aim of the broadcast is to encourage South Africans to celebrate the legacy and the values of OR Tambo and to reflect on the path the country has walked towards freedom. 5FM’s Nick Hamman, Metro FM’s Masechaba Ndlovu and Good Hope FM’s Nigel Pierce will host a panel discussion with invited guests that will include fellow South African’s who knew OR Tambo during his life. The panel will comprise of the Minister for Communications, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo, OR Tambo’s son who is an activist and filmmaker, Dali Tambo, and Mavuso Msimang who was OR Tambo’s  secretary when he was the President of the  African National Congress (ANC) in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The broadcast has an open invitation to those who wish to attend. Alternatively listeners may tune into 5FM, Good Hope FM or Metro FM for an hour of talk radio celebrating one of the greatest leaders of our time.
