Metro FM listener wins R20 000

After a staggering 12 000 entries from listeners across the country, the METRO FM Sports Centre is now known as 083 Sports @6. This comes after a live announcement on the popular sports show on Thursday afternoon, May 17, where Lareece Herold of Pretoria won R20 000 in cash for conceptualising the new name. 

MTN SA. Chief Marketing Officer, Serame Taukobong said, “We are pleased with the hearty welcome our partnership and the competition has received from METRO FM listeners. The response the competition received and the creativity showcased has been phenomenal.

“The new name epitomises the passion of sports by our nation. A big thank you to each fan who entered. Congratulations to Lareece, we hope you enjoy your prize."

Launched on Monday evening, listeners were required to showcase their creativity by playing with MTN in the name suggestion and submitting their entries before midday on Thursday,  May 17. Lareece Herold’s entry received the five-member judging panel’s unanimous nod for being the most ayoba.

METRO FM Station Manager, Martin Vilakazi said, “The new name is an exciting dimension to our partnership with MTN and is now part of METRO FM’s identity.

“This is confirmation that METRO FM and MTN are like-minded in involving fans and connecting them with their passion.” 

This partnership will also undoubtedly deliver quality programming and ensure that METRO FM continues to be a leading radio brand that educates, entertains and informs its audiences.
