28 October : World’s fattest man is crane-lifted to alter

Mexican resident Manuel Uribe shared the happiest day of his life with the world this month when he put a ring on his lovely bride, Claudia Solis's finger. But this was no ordinary wedding! The groom weighed in at an astonishing 360 kilograms and needed a crane to airlift him from his bed to the altar at a venue 30 minutes from his home.

Uribe, who has made the 2007 Guinness Book of Records as the Fattest Man in the World when he clocked 590 kilograms on the scale, has been on a special diet to lose the extra kilo’s after his depression led to suicidal thoughts. The Mexican fatman has been confined to his bed for years unable to move due to his disease.

The ceremony was televised on the US Discovery Channel dubbed “My Big Fat Mexican Wedding.” He and his wife, Claudia Solis, first met four years ago at the deathbed of a friend of his who weighed 250 kilograms. We can only wish that Uribe keeps up the great work and loses more weight, everyone knows how hard it is to stick to a diet! The wedding reception had a “low-calorie banquet” with meat, cream of mushroom and buttered vegetables.
