A team of highly ambitious people drives Discovery Sports Centre, featuring legendary Robert Marawa. Behind the popular show host stands METRO FM’s superb producer Beverley Maphangwa. The station is proud to announce that Bev was recently named GSport October Woman in Media. The site is designed to raise the profile of South African women in sport significantly and to encourage corporate South Africa to back women athletes. Interviewed after her award, Bev described her family as a bunch of sports fanatics who helped shape her love for sport. From watching late night boxing fights with her mother to attending live soccer games with her dad, she had the perfect sporty upbringing to prepare her for the challenges of mainstream sports broadcasting.
Beverley is currently producer of the wildly popular Discovery Sports Centre, hosted by Robert Marawa, on Metro FM, and also works as a sports researcher for SABC Sport TV. She describes her job on Metro FM as the highlight of her career in sports broadcasting, which started off back in 2005 when she joined SABC as an intern. After proving herself, she landed the plum role of working alongside the legendary Robert Marawa, who has given her the kind of support and respect that has helped her excel in her role as his producer.
The award-winning Discovery Sports Centre is a one-of-a-kind experience in radio. The show redefines radio talk by providing a platform for sports discussions that range from lifestyle to political issues in sport.
