On Sunday, June 15, I shared the following passage with you, and in response to your requests, I have posted it here for your reference and comment.
Playwright, poet and first president of the Chech Republic Vaclev Havel once said, “Keep the company of those who seek the truth, and run from those who have found it.” If you keep this in mind as you search for meaning and purpose in life, you will have a better chance of discovering truth while experiencing more joy and freedom in the process. Throughout the history of humanity, philosophers, sages and mystics in pursuit of truth have come to the same conclusion as Einstein, who maintained, The search for truth is more precious than it’s possession.”
Of course, history is replete with the stories of individuals and groups who believed they had found the truth and with it, the right and obligation to impose it upon others. From the crusades to the Inquisition, from Fascism to Maoism, those who believe they are in possession of the truth often destroy those who are reluctant to embrace their reality. At this very moment there are eight ‘major’ wars (defined by at least one thousand battlefield deaths per year) and approximately two dozen “lesser” conflicts occurring on the planet. The overwhelming majority of all wars are fought by people over religious, ideological or political beliefs.
There may be times and circumstances when it is justified to defend and even die for a belief, but sadly, our primitive patterns of reacting often result in violence as an early rather than last resort. Most people confuse their strongly held beliefs with the truth.
- Extract from ‘The Ten Commitments’ by David Simon, M.D
There is a seemingly fine but very clear distinction between belief and truth, and when we are conscious of that difference we are better able to evaluate and react to ourselves and life’s occurrences. What would you count as situations in your life and in our country that relate to the belief/truth paradigm?

19 June: Can't agree with you more my Sista, especially the last paragraph. It's 110% relevant to the recent occurances and utterances which have taken place and made by some of our community members and political "leaders" in the past few weeks, and the latest one being a statement made by the ANCYL president. I'm sure had he read, and managed to make any sence of, the last paragraph from your passage he would have thought twice about making that kind of utterance during the June 16 celebrations in Thaba Nchu on Monday.

19 June: Thami I agree this is deep
You know I still believe that education is the key to success, it not only equip you academically but personally too on how you go about in pursuit of hapiness.
Yesterday morning I was listening to the news and they said that the rand was strengthning because of the The President move to meet with Mr Mugabe and later on during the day Mr Zuma make his statements that he does not believe the run-off will be fair and warawara,by the end of the day we were back to square one. This really shows two different leadership style and what we are in for is really frightening.
South Africa lets stand for HIM or we will fall for anything

Thami keep up the good work and remember that "4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

26 June: Hey, Thami. Its funny at the same time its sad how we are heading for a great depression in time in life, because of our religious and polical beliefs. i was actually discussing the same situation with this other friend of mine yersterday and he asked me wat would i do or how would i feel, if i was to find myself in world war three because of this situation and the truth is i dont know really maybe i would feel cheated. he said he would not feel cheated bcoz its not his fault dat all of this is happening. the fact is we are living in harsh reality in many different ways! the other friend of mine said if the war is to come maybe bcoz america would attack iran for oil then boys wuold be forced to be soldiers like boys from the poem "Anthem for doomed youth"
