SENTLE

Sentle Lehoko has recently been appointed one of METRO FM’s weekend DJs. You will hear him every Saturday on The Groove Lounge between 12h00 and 15h00.

Sentle’s introduction to radio was in 1996 at the age of fifteen when his mother bought him his first portable radio. His plans for the radio were simply to play CDs, but he soon became attached to radio, in particular METRO FM. He jokingly adds that like any child he thought that there actually was a person within the radio.

2001 was Sentle’s first year studying Public Relations at Wits Tech. In June of that year he joined the now defunct Wits Tech Campus Radio Station. November of that year took Sentle to greater heights when a successful audition secured him a job as a DJ on VCR (Vaal Community Radio), now known as 90.6 FM. His first show, Phat Jams, aired on a Friday night between 10h00 and 12h00. Later, another opening came through when one of the other DJs left the radio station. He got his second show, The Get Up and Go Show, which was on air between 04h00 and 06h00 every Monday to Friday. His next show was Heita Batsha, every Saturday evening 21h00 – 24h00. Sentle’s main aim at 90.6 FM was to gain experience, and with three shows under his belt, he surely was getting what he wanted.

In 2005 he felt that he was ready to tackle the role he had been working towards, that of METRO FM DJ. He called METRO FM’s programme manager for advice. Later, after submitting a copy of one of his shows to the Programme Manager, Sentle got to host METRO FM’s training slot with Mr. L. He did such a great job that he got to fill in for different DJs when they were unable to make it for their shows.

Shows which Sentle has held down in the absence of his colleagues include The Late Trade, 326 Glenzito Avenue, as well as last year’s Wake Up Call and The Feel Good Groove. Sentle stood out and proved himself to the point where METRO FM has now made him one of their own. His show is one which is very unique as the features on the show are revolutionary in nature.

With the aim to place METRO FM as a bigger brand, Sentle’s features include Celebrity Playlist and Groove Joint, which feature different celebrities giving their favourite songs in the former and giving a gig to South Africa’s public in the latter. He says, “This is so that METRO FM is seen as the bigger brand, and that our celebrities do something for METRO FM for a change.” With such an innovative mind and a passion for the brand, Sentle is sure to become a permanent fixture at this station.

Sentle expresses the desire to work with children in Orphanages. Since his uncle died, leaving behind a baby, he has grown fond of little children and would love to help those without the opportunities he got.

Also under his belt is also some television experience. He has had roles in SABC 2’s Justice For All in 1996, 1998’s  movie Dr. Lucille where he played a rebel soldier, the 1997 Sasol Science Festival TV advert as well as presenting YO – TV’s You’re Special in 1999. In his spare time Sentle enjoys playing squash, listening to music and on Saturdays you will always find him at different car dealers, being the car fanatic that he is.
