GLEN & UNATHI

Glen Lewis

For someone who refers to himself as the devil himself, Glen Lewis is nothing like that. Probably his other self imposed pseudonym, The Electrifying One, better suits this man.

Unathi Nkayi

The singer, presenter, mother and all-round modern African woman joins Glen Lewis in presenting Metro FM’s drivetime show, in the process creating one of the most formidable dual presenter teams ever heard on South African radio.

24 March - SHIELD 5 DAY CHALLENGE - Day 5

SHIELD 5 DAY CHALLENGE - Day 5

Friday, 20 March 2009 – Day 5:

This morning I feel like a child on Christmas Eve.  The waiting is going to kill me, I know.

I don’t know if I am imagining it, but my armpits are sore.  They have been itching all night and clearly I’ve been scratching, which has made my skin raw.  But its okay, I have a busy day so I hope it will distract me.

If nothing else, I know dynamite comes in small packages.  NOT ANOTHER DAY WITHOUT MY SHIELD WILL I LIVE.

I didn't realise how emotional I would be at my breaking point.  We have been broadcasting outside of the studio and we have had so many guests who have come to the broadcast. There has been lots of hugging and meeting people for the first time.  And this is their first impression…

I think that was what was working on my mind over and over that entire afternoon.  I think that is why I couldn't even wait until Glen had finished what he was talking about, when I smashed open the safe to safe guard my reputation.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH… I’VE CRACKED!!!!!

SHIELD 5 DAY CHALLENGE - Day 4

Woaow! I’m really overwhelmed. Yesterday was by far the worst! It’s Friday morning 05h30 and to tell you the truth, I was so busy I couldn’t even sit down for a moment to blog!

The day began as normal at 5h30 and I was out and busy the whole day, I only got home at 22h30. I really underestimated what a huge impact not using SHIELD would have on my self-esteem. It truly took its toll on me yesterday! I think what made it worse was interviewing Phindile Xaba, editor of Real magazine who was so authentic about her experience…  I don’t know how long I am going to last!

SHIELD 5 DAY CHALLENGE - Day 3

Wednesday, 18 March 2009 – Day 3:

I can officially say I STINK!  I stink so bad it’s getting spicy.  I think I’m so vocal about it because I don’t understand how I could allow myself to violate myself.  I know I sound Schizo, but this process is trying.

I can also officially say… I will never ever do this again!  I’m a physical person.  I miss giving people bear hugs.  I find myself doing that underarm fake touch thing people call hugs.

So I had an early active morning again.  On the road from 5h30 and I haven’t been home since.  One of my colleagues bought Shield deodorant, forced it into my hand and went on to take a picture.  He thought it was funny as I had told him that I have made sure mine is out of sight.  Not funny!

Band rehearsal was trying too.  It was more physical today as we were also doing some choreography. Then I had to rush to a parent teacher meeting which was awkward to say the least.  So there is my son’s teacher having an internal conversation with herself, convincing herself that it can’t be me.  He he he, that was a little funny though. I think what I have been struggling with is “Do I tell people I am doing this challenge?”

More is Nog ‘n Dag. Aluta Continua.

SHIELD 5 DAY CHALLENGE - Day 2

Tuesday, 17 March 2009 – Day 2

Hmmm… so today I woke up and it was a little easier. My day started later with the usual routine, ended up at band rehearsal for my CD Launch next week Wednesday and was shoved in a corner.  The band made me rehearse next to the fan as they said they refused to be subjected to my lack of deodorant.

I’m a bit worried though because I have a very important meeting this evening after the show.  So the question is… do I make them aware that I am doing this challenge as I know I smell already and the meeting is another 3 hours away or do I try and pretend everything is okay?  It’s that huge elephant in the room, if you get what I mean?

Eish!!!!!!!!

SHIELD 5 DAY CHALLENGE

Monday, 16 March 2009 – Day 1:

I usually have early mornings which is not a problem.  This one was a bit of a stress as I had to do Morning Live with Vuyo and Lee-Ann and there has been no slowing down since then.

So its 16h10 and I’ve showered twice today already.  It’s been interesting to say the least. I’ve been debating with myself, do I wear a sleeveless top to reduce the chances of me sweating or do I wear a long sleeve top to reduce the chances of the smell going too far?  So the whole day I’ve been swopping between the two.

Had issues this morning.  When I drop my son off every morning we usually go through a ritual where I put him on my shoulders and walk him into his class.  Today he wanted to know why we were deterring from the ritual.  I had to give in and just brave it!

It’s been okay, but it’s the little comments that I need to rise above.  But truth be told.  I really don’t know how long I will last.  I hope I do!
