THE OTHER MAN

CAST: Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, Antonio Banderas

DIRECTOR: Richard Eyre

In a three-way relationship, one of players isn’t fully aware of the third player. It’s only the other two who are wise to the situation, whichever orientation they are, whether it’s the man or the woman cheating. In this case, as the title suggests, it is the female (Linney) who’s having a little extra mayonnaise on the side, without her doting husband’s (Neeson) knowledge.

The story is told through his eyes as he begins his search to find “the other man” – played by Banderas - in his wife’s life. As time goes on, it unfolds as to how exactly he found out and the subsequent relationship he had with his wife. There’s very little action as you might expect, but some scenes are of a sexual nature (of course).

While the movie does not presume to represent every person out there, it does raise interesting questions about three-way relationships and how different people come to handle them when they find out. With Neeson leading the charge, and Banderas in tow, one would expect some violence, but again, there’s not enough to speak of. In fact, Neeson’s character really surprises at the end of the movie and does something that perhaps not a lot of men in his situation
