The Legend’s first stop: METRO FM studios

Nine-time Grammy Award winner, John Legend  graced Metro FM studios in ‘The Touch Down’ show for WOMEN’S DAY. It was the first stop he made after landing on the South African soil.

METRO FM's Dj Mlu, when interviewing him highlighted the fact that it’s not Legend’s first or second time here in SA. He asked what’s with SA that always made him comeback.

Legend replied that: "The very first time I performed in SA, at the Standard Bank Arena, I was a bit beaten up cos I [was] on tour all year and my voice was tired, but I was lifted up by the people and I just felt the energy there. I’ve been coming back as much as I could ever since, because the love I feel here is so strong.”

Touch, who was accompanying Legend reflected on that night as he recalled seeing Legend crying for the first time while performing.

“I’d never seen you cry. That [night] you cried,” Touch said

‘Ye, I felt it,” responded Legend.

“Everybody sang every song,” Touch pondered.

“… It was beautiful,” said Legend.

Legend has visited South Africa at least five times. On the 10th of August he will serenade an intimate and exclusive audience at the Sandton Convention Centre.

He will be supported by METRO FM’s own songstress Unathi Msengana and multiple SAMA winners MiCasa.

the show was poorly organized. what's the purpose of paying for/buying vvip tickets just to discover the row on your ticket does not exist. finding someone willing to take responsibility was like the limpopo text-book disaster. the sound at times was eratic. the inability to control the crowd [to remain in their paid for seats] added to the delated feeling. the man is good ... pity that he was on stage for such a short perion.

I am a HUGE John Legend fan and I've been supporting and attending most of his SA concerts hence I got a VVIP for this One Night only concert. It was so disappointing to get to the venue and made to line up for a good 40 mins as VVIP. The show started with us still lined up outside resulting in me missing the opening acts, to top this off after being led to the cocktail area, we were told to buy our drinks while the ticket stated that it covered all of that. I was very disappointed in the organisation of this concert. It was meant to be the greatest John Legend concert ever as we paid hefty amounts to get exclusivity which we never received. What happened to the apparent 23 piece orchestra? Am I the only person who missed it, because there was no orchestra there. I was set to sit in ROW D but for some funny reason there were two floating rows in the front resulting in me being a bit further from the stage. John Legend's performance was utterly bland, it was clear that there was no narration or logical order in the song arrangement, he did not even serenade us as women which defeated the whole point of having a women's day celebration concert. I'm disappointing in Metro FM, Dream in Kolor and Trademark Entertainment. There was nothing exclusive about this concert and I did not get value for my money.
